President’s Message – August 2013
Here we go again, ready to start another school year! I wish you a successful beginning this fall as we provide the best in art education to all of our students across the state.
We’ve been busy this summer, as Kelly and I attended the Southeastern Leadership Conference in Nashville on July 10-13. We had a very enjoyable cultural day and our meetings involved reviewing NAEA position and policy statements and again we were treated to NAEA President Dennis Inhulsen in attendance. Oh, and attending The Grand Ole Opry wasn’t too bad either…..getting to hear one of my all time favorites-Restless Heart!
And on June 25, Jessica Balsley of the “Art of Education”held the first ever webinar. If you missed this one be sure to catch the next one-it was awesome! The online conference was seen by over 700 art educators from across the US(and world) and our own Kelly Berwager was one of the presenters. Way to go Kelly…..I mean Dr. Berwager. And best of luck in your new position at Troy University!
Don’t forget the change of dates for our Board Retreat at the Guinn’s set for September 20 & 21. All elected and appointed board members are invited! We will finalize conference plans, review SE Leadership information, continue work on our “Arts in Alabama” banner, and enjoy lots of fun, food, and fellowship!
And as you should know, our annual conference returns to Orange Beach at The Island House Hotel and Orange Beach Art Center on Oct. 17-19. Let’s set another attendance record this year! Can’t beat the beach.
Again, have a wonderful year and I wish you and your students the very best year yet!
Yours in Art, Larry
