The big date is almost upon us and art educators from all over Alabama are preparing to converge upon Orange Beach, Alabama on October 17-19, 2013 for the annual AAEA Fall Conference, “Creativity On The Coast” This year’s professional development event is shaping up to be one of the most exciting and productive ever.
Conference Quick Links:
The 2013 AAEA Fall Conference brings together art educators from around the state of Alabama to share ideas and information on ways to expand our impact within the education and art communities and on student development. This year we are especially pleased to host University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Assistant Professor of Drawing and Bookmaking, Douglas Baulos as our keynote speaker. The weekend also offers a ton of topical workshops and hands on activities (including glass blowing) presented by the best and brightest of our state’s active and retired art teachers, arts and museum administrators and post-secondary educators. There is absolutely no better opportunity for professional growth and networking and we certainly hope you will join us at the beach!
Another very exciting bit of AAEA news is the announcement that our current President Larry Gibson has received and accepted an appointment by National Art Education Association President Dennis Inhulsen to the National Task Force on Leadership Development. The new task force is charged with (1) reviewing NAEA’s past leadership development efforts (2) identifying current leadership development models and (3) making recommendations to the NAEA Board of Directors to include program goals, core competencies and implementation models. Larry will serve with 3 other Southeastern leaders on the ten member committee, and will be the middle school representative.
By all accounts the AAEA Summer Board Retreat recently hosted by the Guinn’s at West Point Lake in Lanett, Alabama was a very productive success and judging by the photographic evidence, a terrifically fun time too. Like our FaceBook page to see the pictures!
